About Kathleen Doody

M.A., ABD, ATP, CFI/II/MEI, RYT-200

Hello, and thank you for visiting. I’m Kathleen Doody — an aviation educator, researcher, and ATP-rated pilot with a lifelong passion for understanding how flight has evolved and how aviation continues to influence society, policy, and global connectivity.

I believe aviation is a field defined by curiosity and constant reinvention. For me, teaching aviation history is not simply about recounting events — it’s about helping students understand the dynamic relationship between people, technology, policy, and culture. When we examine where flight has been, we can more clearly see where it is going.

Professional Background

I hold advanced degrees in aviation and education, and I am completing my doctoral work in public policy. I have taught in collegiate aviation programs, middle school programs, as well as industry settings. My professional experience includes:

  • ATP-rated pilot in all four classes of airplanes

  • Certified Flight Instructor (CFI/II/MEI)

  • United Airlines Fleet Technical Instructor

  • Adjunct and affiliate faculty roles in university aviation departments

  • Curriculum development and aviation workforce research

My academic work focuses on aviation education, systems development, the evolution of air transport, and the intersections between policy, technology, and social change.

Teaching Philosophy

My approach to teaching blends historical inquiry, contemporary relevance, and student-centered exploration. I aim to help learners connect the foundational milestones of aviation with the technological, political, and economic forces that continue to drive the industry forward.

Aviation history is not static — it is a lens through which we understand innovation, leadership, and the future of global mobility.

Beyond aviation, I deeply enjoy writing, learning, and finding creative ways to make complex concepts accessible. It’s a privilege to teach and mentor students of all ages who will contribute to the next chapter of aviation history.
